St Anthonys Garvin Samaroo vs Mucurapo.St Anthony’s were officially crowned North Zone champions in the bgTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Zonal Championships without kicking a ball yesterday.

St Anthony’s were on a bye, but Mucurapo, needing victory over Trinity, at Moka, Maraval, to deny them, slumped to an embarrassing 5-2 beating. So the crown heads to Westmoorings.

Also in the North Zone yesterday, St Mary’s edged hosts Fatima 1-0 while QRC hammered visiting Malick 6-0.

Naparima dethroned Presentation San Fernando for the South title after edging Pleasantville 3-2 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Naparima ended their campaign with 15 points, four more than Shiva Boys who have one game remaining. Shiva Boys pipped St Benedict’s 2-1 at Penal while Presentation were held to a 1-1 draw by Vessigny at Penal.

Defending Tobago Zone champs Mason Hall fell 2-1 to Signal Hill. Speyside were awarded a 3-0 default result over Roxborough because of an ill-prepared field.

With East leaders and reigning champs St Augustine on a bye, San Juan were held to a 2-2 draw by hosts El Dorado while at the Larry Gomes Stadium, hosts Arima spanked Barataria 4-0.

No score was available from the Trinity East-Toco game in the East Zone, as well as the pair of matches in the Central Zone up to press time last night.

The Final round of matches in the Zonal Championships will be played on Wednesday.
