San Fernando’s Naparima College and Presentation College are all geared up for the annual Val Turton/ Carl Osbourne Intercol Football double header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
The stage is set for one of the biggest showdown on October 29 and already Naparima’s captain Aaron Dass had already has his sights on the community trophy.
Also featuring at the tournament is an anticipated exciting match between the girls of Holy Faith Convent Penal and Point Fortin East Secondary School.
On Thursday, the Turton/Carl Osbourne Foundation held a press conference at the San Fernando City Hall, outlining the event.
This year being the tenth anniversary of the (VTCOF), host president Joel Edwards boast of the $151,000 in bursaries distributed over the years.
Edwards said that a total of 29 students have benefited in the past nine years and six more will receive bursaries during the half time interval of this year’s tournament.
“One of the interesting, positive and pleasant developments, as we celebrate ten year is the fact that we have been able to attract the corporate sector to partner with the foundation. They have sponsored bursaries in the amount of $6,000 each.”
San Fernando Mayor Marlene Coudray gave her full support to the event and lauded the foundation to their contribution towards youth development.
Coudray, a former Naparima Girls High School student said that through these efforts, they were able to get children from behind television and video games and into the fields.
She said the anticipation building up before the game made her reminisced on the feeling she had about Intercol games during her school days.
The first match kicks off at 2 pm between Penal Holy Faith Convent and Point Fortin East Secondary while Naparima College and Presentation College commences at 4 pm. Tickets are twenty dollars and the Mayor’s trophy will be awarded for the best rhythm section.
