Premier Division clubs dominated when the Trinidad and Tobago Women's League Football (WoLF) FA Trophy competition kicked off last Wednesday.
There were victories for Premier Division clubs Trincity Nationals, who won 3-2 over Step By Step, and Malick City, 3-0 over St Mary's Central United, while Real Dimension won 4-0 over St Ann's Rangers and Defence Force hammered Mos Schoolaz 7-0.
The only Premier Division losers were the University of the West Indies, who went down 4-0 to Point Fortin Pioneers of the South First Division. National Under-15 players Curleen Jacobs, Deonicia Prince, and Tamara Johnson (two goals) scored for the winners.
In the marquee match-up, Trincity Nationals edged high-flying North Zone First Division team Step By Step, a team containing several Trinidad and Tobago national players.
The Premier Division team went ahead in the ninth minute through Shanelle Warrick, who converted a penalty kick after her sister Jonelle Warrick was fouled in the box.
Step By Step responded and were level at 1-1 through former USA and Sweden-based professional Ahkeela Mollon. The equaliser resulted from nice one-touch passing between Mollon and another senior national player, Tamar Watson, whose perfect pass set up Mollon.
Step By Step had a good start to the second half and took a 57th minute lead when Mollon converted her own penalty after she was fouled.
However, the match was soon level at 2-2 when Trincity got an immediate response through Shanelle Warrick, whose shot was misjudged by the opposing keeper, who was beaten by the bounce.
Having grabbed the momentum, Trincity went on to win the match when Jonelle Warrick got a second goal in the 65th minute. Capitalising on a defensive mix-up, Warwick hit a one-time shot past the advancing Step By Step keeper.
