Reigning league champion Real Dimension copped its first piece of silverware for the season with a dramatic 2-1 win over Trincity Nationals, in the Women’s League Football (WoLF) FA Trophy, on Thursday evening.
The match was played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Wrightson Road, with Dimension, which is also well on its way to another league title, winning the $5,500 FA trophy in the last kick of the match, through a fabulous finish from Natasha St Louis at the death of the only minute of time added on.
Trincity, in fact, took a lead just after the hour mark, from a close range effort from Jonelle Warrick.
Following a cross Shanelle Warrick, Jonelle easily finished from close range with a mix up at the back between goalkeeper Keri Myers and her defenders, allowing the ball to fall at the feet of the attacker. Trincity held a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
However, ten minutes into the restart Dimension equalised from another close range goal, this time from Alania Burgin who capitalised on a ball which bounced about in the penalty area from a corner kick. The match seemed to heading to the penalty kicks, if not for St Louis’ late goal.
After the 80 minutes allotted for the match concluded, and the one minute was about to expire, an inspired St Louis took it upon herself to find the winner and did just that as she took from the right side of the field and sped to the 18 yard box, when she cut back and shot a terrific left-footed effort around a poorly positioned Tricia Pascall in goal, to seal the victory.
Following the final whistle, Real Dimension lifted yet another trophy while its team captain Janine Francois was awarded the Most Valuable Player for the final, by T&T Football Federation acting president Lennox Watson.
