The event was the third and final day of a series of 'Player Combines Trials' held in Trinidad and Tobago for MLS club, Seattle Sounders and was jointly facilitated by the Division of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs and the Tobago Football Association with input from the Secondary Schools Football League, the Tobago Zone.
Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines international player, Ezra Hendrickson, who is now attached to the Seattle Sounders as an assistant coach was in charge of the sessions along with former Trinidad and Tobago World Cup midfielder, Evans Wise, who is now a sports agent and scout.
The pair viewed two trial matches between a 'White' team and a 'Red' team, coached by Sports Department coaches, Sherwin Jordan and Terry Williams, respectively.
Hendrickson and Wise addressed the players at the start of the day's proceedings while T.F.A. president, Raymond Alleyne, and Sports Department Supervisor of coaches, Peter Granville, also brought greetings on behalf of their respective bodies.
All the players participated in the first match that was won by the 'White' Team 4-0, before the group of players was whittled down to twenty-six for the second match.
Assistant Secretary for Sport and Youth Affairs, Huey Cadette who made this event possible, highlighted the need to create diverse opportunities for young persons when he addressed the players prior to the second match, which was again won by the 'White' team 2-0.
Lambeau United left back, Larry Potts, made the biggest impression on Hendrickson, who said that the 23 year old former Signal Hill Secondary player is ready for TT Pro League, United States Soccer League Football and could be ready for the MLS in about two years.
Other players catching the eye of Hendrickson included the St. Clair Coaching School duo of Keon Samuel and Anderson Taylor, Signal Hill Secondary player Akiel Guy and University of Trinidad and Tobago final year student, Jerron Quashie.
The event was the initiative of former national goalkeeper and T.T.F.F. Technical Director, Lincoln 'Tiger' Phillips and his son, Sheldon who recently formed Element Agency and Events which is a sports management firm based in Columbia, Maryland. The duo also viewed Wednesday's Player Combine trials.
Plans are underway to announce a cooperative agreement with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) to have a college showcase event in April in order to provide a platform for U.S.based College coaches to evaluate and provide scholarship opportunities to young local footballers.
