Vernon Wilson netted a double as Bethel United edge Youth Stars United  2-1 at Goodwood Ground to remain top of the Tobago Football Association Premier Division on Sunday.

With the win, Bethel pushed its tally to 20 points from nine matches, one more than Roxborough Lakers which has a match in hand while Youth Stars, which got its goal through Uriah Palmer stayed second from bottom with five points, the same as Sidey’s FC, and one ahead of struggling defending champion, St Clair Coaching School.

It was the second loss in three days for St Clair, and seventh of the season after it was blanked 4-0 by 1976 Phoenix at Plymouth Recreation Ground on Friday night. Curtis Joseph and Dominique Roberts scored two goals each in the win for Phoenix, sixth on the 12-team table with 11 points.

Also on Sunday at Goodwood, Ackeel Sterling got two and Kwasi Beckles, one, for Lakers in a 3-1 whipping of Goal City. Kamion George was on target for Goal City.

And in the other Premier Division encounter, Shey Jerry and Juel Jack fired in a goal apiece for Georgia FC to slip past Mason Hall USSS and moved to 14 points in fourth spot, two behind its opponent.

In the other Premier Division match on Friday, Akeilon Murphy and Curtis Job scored for Stokely Vale to cancel out Sidey’s FC Glenroy Frederick strike and improve to 14 points, level with Georgia.

Tomorrow, double-headers are carded for both Goodwood and Canaan Ground, Bon Accord from 5pm. At Goodwood, Sidey’s faces George followed by Lakers against Bethel in a top-of-the-table clash while at Bon Accord, St Clair and Lambeau lock horns from 5 pm, and two hours later, Phoenix plays Youth Stars.

Bethel take lead in Tobago football

BETHEL UNITED surged to the top of the Premier Division in the Tobago Football Association after a narrow 2-1 victory over Youth Stars United at Goodwood.

A Vernon Wharton double gave the men from Bethel the victory, cancelling out a strike by Uriah Palmer in Sunday’s game.

They replaced Roxborough Lakers at the top, despite the Lakers’ comfortable 3-1 victory over Taylor’s Rentals Goal City, also on Sunday at Plymouth.

Ackeel Sterling scored twice while Kwasi Beckles got the other goal for the winners while Kamkin George got the consolation.

Georgia FC moved into fourth position after a 2-1 triumph over Mason Hall USSS on Sunday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium training ground. Shey Jerry and Joel Jack scored one goal each for the winners while Jeremy Orr got the Mason Hall tally.

Meanwhile, defending champions St Clair’s Coaching School continue to struggle, drubbed 4-0 by 1976 FC Phoenix at Plymouth in their game on Friday.

Curtis Joseph and Dominique Roberts both scored doubles for the winners.
