Premier division leaders Stokely Vale blanked 1976 Phoenix 2-0 to claim the 2009 Tobago Football Association’s Cup title on Wednesday night at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. After 19 minutes, Daren Skeete broke the deadlock with a strike, to put Vale up 1-0. The B conference team, despite being down by a goal, fancied its chances of drawing level, however, Tyrone Manning sealed the issue with nine minutes to go, to give his side the 2-0 win and the title.

Vale, which is on 24 points at the top of the premier standings, humbled Signal Hill 4-1 in their semifinal match, while Phoenix which is third in the B conference, upset premier division team Roxborough Lakers 4-2 on penalty kicks after the scoreline read 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

Meanwhile, Lakers finished third in the tournament after defeating Hill 3-0 in a playoff. Grevon Crooks, Kim Harris and Kwesi Beckles accounted for the Lakers goals. The league was expected to resume with a double header in round 12 action on Friday. Second place Earlbrokes taking on Bethel United, while third place St Clair’s Coaching School tackling Mason Hall U.S.S.S. at Plymouth.

STOKELYVALE are the new holders of the FA Cup in the Digicel- sponsored Tobago Football Association.

Darren Skeete netted a 19th minute penalty in Wednesday’s final against 1976 FC Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium to put his team on the road to the cup.

And when their goal-scoring ace Tyrone Manning fired in his shot in the 81st minute, it was all over.

Roxborough Lakers clinched third spot with an emphatic 3-0 shut out of Signal Hill United.

Grevon Crooks, Kirn Harris and Kwesi Beckles scored one goal each to give the Roxborough men the third prize.

Meanwhile, Golden Lane maintained their lead in the “A” Conference despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Calder Hall FC in Thursday’s match at the stadium training ground.

Aldon Wheeler and Garvin Richards scored one goal each for Calder Hall while Kurtnel Joseph and Joel James got the Golden Lane goals.

Moriah Youths missed the chance to go top of the charts in the conference when they too were held to a 2-2 draw by Black Rock FC at Plymouth.

Damion John and Eldon Paul scored for the Moriah men while Prolific Michael Carrington and Reginald Duke scored for Black Rock.

MLCB Mt Grace United moved into third in the conference when they dumped Leeds United 3-1 also at Plymouth.

Brian Brown scored twice and Rodney Nelson got the other goal for Mt Grace while Delhi Sandy got the consolation.

Anmd at Goodwood, Carnbee/Mt Pleasant shut out the home team 2-0 on goals by Darrel Baynes and Evander Roberts.
