Trinidad and Tobago’s senior women’s team lost their opening match to Costa Rica’s Senior Women’s team 1-0 at the Costa Rican FIFA Goal Project Centre in San Jose on Wednesday.
T&T, under head coach Marlon Charles, managed to put on a good display against the hosts but conceded in the 80th minute.
Charles made several substitutions and many of the more experienced players such as Arin King, Kennya Cordner, Karyn Forbes and Tasha St. Louis were replaced by a younger line up to give them exposure to a more intense game.
Costa Rica is preparing for the First Round Qualifiers of the CAC Games which will be played in March 2013 while T&T is looking ahead to upcoming World Cup qualifiers for the 2015 Finals.
T&T played their second game against Alajauela club’s women’s team on Thursday with both teams battling to a 2-2 draw. T&T got goals from St Louis and Janine Francois.
“It’s been two challenging game for us so far which is what the players need at this stage,” Charles told TTFF Media.
“The opening game was always going to be tough but we gave a pretty decent account of ourselves. They got a goal in the closing ten minutes but overall the players were up for the challenge.
We came a little more into our own in the second game. I expect us to improve for the remainder of games. The purpose of the exercise here is about allowing the team to get that needed match practice as we look ahead to the competition later down the road,” Charles added.
