She has fans in social media who refer to her simply as “YaYa,” or the “YaYa Monster.” Trinidad and Tobago striker Kennya Cordner (wiki) made the first-ever goalWA.net Washington WPSL Player of the Week pick a fairly easy one.
After scoring twice in SSR Issaquah’s league match on Friday she joined the senior squad at Seattle Reign FC and scored again, this time against the Haitian National Team.
For her efforts Cordner is our first Washington WPSL Player of the Week.
Cordner is also on INWsoccerNews.com’s Three Stars list.
Cordner had been playing in the WPSL as early as 2006, and more recently played with the Brisbane Roar in Australia. She’s in her second year with Issaquah, and practices several times a week for the professional NWSL Seattle Reign FC. The striker is famous for once scoring nine goals in a T & T qualifying match.
Who knows how long YaYa will be in the WPSL. The Reign could come calling full-time at any moment. While she’s here, though, shes off to a hot start, and she’s our first 2013 Player of the Week.
