Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Women’s Team got their English tour off to an impressive start with a 7-1 hammering of Queen’s Park Rangers Women’s team on Thursday at the Concorde Club in Cranford, England. And they followed that up with a 4-1 victory over Reading FC on Friday.
Kennya Cordner led the way with four goals against QPR with one each from Dernelle Mascall, Janine Francois and Rinelle Findley. On Friday, Findley was again on the scoresheet while Maylee Attin Johnson notched a double and Tasha St Louis added another item.
At Concorde Club, T&T went ahead through Cordner in the 5th minute before QPR equalized in the 11th. The visitors would go on to dominate proceedings with six unanswered goals.
Technical Director Anton Corneal said it was the ideal way to begin the tour which T&T is using as preparations for qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. T&T's current training camp is supported by the Ministry of Sports.
“The opening game went very well for us. We were a lot quicker and more skillful than QPR,” Corneal said.
“But at the same time it was important that we understand that they are a club team and we are a national team. The exposure to a different environment and atmosphere would have given us the type of experience we wanted out of this trip from the opening game.
One of our strong points is shooting of the ball from outside of the box, which was very good in this game,” Corneal added. T&T will face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
