Trinidad and Tobago’s female referee Cindy Mohammed has been selected to serve at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany.

Both De Silva, a referee and Mohammed, an assistant referee, have performed with distinction at the current Concacaf Women’s Qualifying final round in Cancun, Mexico and were selected to officiate in Monday’s Final between Mexico and Canada. Mexico upset USA 2-1 in their semi-final outing to qualify for the Women’s World Cup in Germany which means the Americans will have to vie for third place with Costa Rica and hope they advance to a playoff with Italy for the final qualifying spot.

Mohammed  will have to undergo final tests before taking up their appointments at the World Cup in Germany.

“It feels great to have been appointed along with Shane. We have both worked really hard for this and hopefully we can perform creditably and represent well,” Mohammed told TTFF Media.

“This tournament in Mexico has been superb for us and the standard of play and officiating has been commendable… this is a very positive sign for women’s football in the Concacaf.”

Concacaf President Jack Warner again relayed words of congratulations to the T&T duo.

“Once again I wish to commend both women on their performances with the whistle and the flag at the Final round of qualification in Mexico. They have demonstrated their capabilities in the best manner possible and I want to urge them to keep up with this kind of progress and they will continue to raise the level of refereeing in general in the region,” Warner said.
