Six foreign based players are expected to join the National U–17 Women’s team this weekend to participate in an intensive training camp at the Center of Excellence.
The camp, which will be conducted by head coach Even Pellerud and goalkeeper coach Marius Rovde, will kick off at 9 am on Friday morning.
The six players, Shante Helwig, Khara John, Jasmine Sampson, Brianna Ryce, Shakirah Salandy and Danielle McPhun will join their local counterparts on Friday evening
The last time the squad played together was in July during the team’s tour of Central America; during that tour the team won five out of the six matches played.
Head Coach Even Pellerd says this weekend’s camp is not only timely but essential to the team’s development
“The local girls resumed training about two months ago, but it is imperative that they work with the foreign based players. A team can only cohesive is synergy exists amongst all payers, that can only be achieved through regular training sessions”
Pellerud explained that the local girls have been involved in several strength training programmes over the last two months
“We resumed training in September, I am positive we will see the results of these training sessions on the field”
During the two day camp the players will be exposed to a number of activities all aimed at improving their skills on the field
The camp is part of the team preparatory activities for the Women’s World Cup in September 2010. Member s of the media can attend the session on Saturday at 9:00 -11:00 am or 4:30-5:30 pm.
