The official mascot of the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup will be unveiled to the world during a major production on the Brian Lara Promenade, in Port-of-Spain at 2.30 pm tomorrow.

The launch of the mascot represents another milestone achievement in the local organising committee’s (LOC) journey to the host the most successful Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup to date.

Nataki Kerr, deputy chief executive officer of the LOC, describes the mascot as a true representation of T&T’s unique and diverse culture.

“This mascot is a true representation of the spirit of the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup T&T 2010; she has a distinct ‘Trini’ flavour but has crossover appeal with which the other teams can identify when they arrive. We are certain we will have a lot of fun with her in the lead-up to and during the World Cup.”

Kerr also added: “We have designed a launch which is reflective of the atmosphere we hope to create at the various stadia during the World Cup. Friday’s event will be a double celebration, as the LOC will also be lunching the official theme song for the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup.”

The Official Theme song for the event was written and produced by some of the country’s top performers. “I will not spoil the surprise , but T&T is in for a treat. The fact that we have been able to attract some of the country’s most popular personalities to support this event is testament to the growing popularity of the Women’s Football.

I am urging everyone, especially parents to bring their children out on Friday. We are all part of this U-17 Women’s World Cup”

In addition to the unveiling, Friday’s programme will feature presentations from officials of T&T’s Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs as well as a number of fun filled activities and giveaways for all spectators. Oliver Camps, Chairman of the LOC has described the launch as “another great achievement.”

He said: “The LOC has been working assiduously to ensure the success of this event but we cannot achieve our goals unless we have the support of the population. I am urging T&T to come out and support us on Friday as we show the world T&T is the home of women’s football.”

The Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup will be played in T&T from September 5th-25th 2010. Sixteen teams will be participating in the event, which will feature matches at the five major stadia in T&T: the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo; Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima; the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella; Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva and the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago.
