Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 Women’s Team will head off to Fort Lauderdale this coming Thursday for a week-long training camp at Florida Atlantic University ahead of the CONCACAF final round qualification in the Cayman Islands from January 9-19, as they gear up for the 2014 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup which takes place in Canada from August 5-24.
Two groups of four teams will participate in round-robin play over the competition’s first six match days. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals. Three teams—two semi-final winners and the winner of the third-placed playoff—will represent CONCACAF at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The Trinidad and Tobago national team, runners up to host Jamaica at the Caribbean finals earlier this year, are coming off a live-in training camp at Cascadia Hotel earlier this month, and will complete their preparations with two training matches in Fort Lauderdale.
They first take on FC Florida Under-18 Women’s team next week Sunday and then American NCAA Division 1 team Florida Atlantic University two days later on January 7. Both matches will be played at the Florida Atlantic Ground. The team will be based at the Wyndham Boca Raton. Following the camp, which is being supported by the Ministry of Sport, the T&T team then departs for the Cayman Islands on January 8.
T&T is led by head coach Izler Browne. The team includes four players who were selected on the Caribbean All Star team in October: defenders Daniella Findley and Jonelle Warrick and midfielders Patrice Campbell and Shenelle Henry.
T&T opens their CONACACAF final round campaign against Honduras on January 10 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. They then take on hosts Cayman Islands on January 12 and Mexico two days later. Defending champion United States—seeded into Group A—kicks off against Central American foe Costa Rica. Jamaica and Guatemala begin the tournament on January 9.
