#12 Jinelle KissoonJamaica's Under-20 female footballers, through second-half goals from Semone Honeghan and Teashian Thomas, defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 at Brancourt in Clarendon for their consecutive win over the twin-island republic in their three-match practice series on Friday.

Honeghan struck four minutes after the half-time break and Thomas netted nine minutes later to give the hosts a comfortable victory.

The teams will square off in the final game of the series at Drax Hall today, starting at 3:00 pm.

Coach Vin Blaine, who is preparing the team for its first-round CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers later this month, said had they taken their chances in the first half it could have been a much easier match.

"We started out good but we did not capitalise on some easy chances we got and that could have turnd the game early. In the second half we came out more purposeful and got the two goals and the win, which is important to us," he said.

"... We're using these games to correct some of the things that we're doing wrong. I saw some things in this game... so we're going to work on them in training," he added.

The Young Girlz took a while to get into their stride but came close to scoring through Honeghan, Thomas and Nugene Nugent.

However, the Trinidadians almost made them pay for those misses when Karen Forbes' released Afiya Matthias with a floated ball over the defence, but goalkeeper Sashagay Spence was quick off her line to deny the midfielder.

Four minutes after the interval, the Jamaicans took the lead when Thomas got by a defender on the right and delivered a pin-point cross from Honeghan, who planted a firm header past Kimika Forbes in goal.

Honeghan, the topscorer in the recently-concluded Schoolgirl League, returned the favour to strike partner Thomas, in the 58th minute.

After leaving three defenders in her wake on the left to make her way inside the six-yard box, the speedy forward passed to Thomas who turned the opposing defence before firing a low shot past Forbes.

The visitors made a few threatening moves afterwards, but their finishing failed to trouble Spence in goal.

Thomas almost added another minutes before the end, but she could not direct Monique Pryce's cross on target from 12 yards.

Trinidadian coach Jamaal Shabazz said it was an improved performance by his team and the hosts should expect a tougher match today in St Ann.

"I think this was a much closer game than the last one we played. We had our chances to go ahead but we didn't score. I thought Jamaica scored two well-taken goals... but I thought our girls were always in the game, unlike the last match, and that's a big improvement for our team.

"So I think Jamaica must be worried because we seem to be closing in on them," he said.
