Dwayne Edwards scored a beaver-trick as T&TEC slammed Brick Field Falcons 11-0 in their Southern Football Association Roy Jagroopsingh Second Division top-of-the-table clash on Sunday to gain promotion.
Givon John added a hat-trick while Akini Rouse got two and William Garcia and Dwight Charles, one each for the “Electricity Boys”, now with an unassailable 36 points from 13 matches, 13 ahead of Brick Field which has a match in hand and three in all to complete their 15-match campaign.
In addition to securing one of the two promotion spots to next year’s Petrotrin Super League, T&TEC also picked up $10,000. Despite the loss, Brick Field stayed second with 23 points, one more than Big Dreams United which won by default from cellar-placed Ace Foundation. The runner-up will also get $5,000 and third, $3,000.
Meanwhile, Penal Rock Road missed out on a chance to close to within two points of Petrotrin Super League leader, Siparia Spurs after it was held to a 1-1 draw by lowly PAL United. Nathan Homer had given second from bottom of the table PAL United a 26th minute lead but Nigel Williams earned a share of the points for Penal with a 65th minute equaliser.
With the point earned, Penal improved to 39 points from 18 matches and two left play while Spurs has 43 points from 17 matches while PAL has six points, one ahead of Giants which sit in the automatic demotion spot.
Third placed, OJ Soldado All Stars, winner of the Anthony Cook “Big-Four” title already this season saw its title hopes suffer a major blow in the discipline room after it was slapped with a default loss to Uprising Youths after their match on November 5 was abandoned.
All Stars stayed third with 37 points from 17 matches, the same as La Brea All Stars PYC which blasted Giants 9-2 led by a five-goal burst from Randell Richards.
Meanwhile, the League Cup semifinal will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) with Petrotrin Palo Seco meeting Diamond United at Palo Seco from 6pm in the first-leg while the second-leg match takes place on Tuesday December 6. In the other semifinal, Spurs awaits the winner of the Penal All Stars/Uprising clash.
