After an impressive 2011/2012 season, Harlem Strikers FC was honoured at the Central Football Association (CFA) closing ceremony and awards function, at the Chaguanas Community Centre, Chaguanas, last week Monday.
Among the list of accolades for the past season, Harlem picked up the Sankitank League Cup and the Ramsingh Sports World FA Cup, as well as the Crille Premier League and Big Six Competition, for its outstanding efforts.
Harlem also took $2,000 as cash prizes for the first two cup wins and $10,000 for the latter Big Six competition. The club dominated for the individual awards, with Carey Harris copping the Player of the Year, while headman Trevor Elcock took Coach of the Year. It was no surprise that Harlem Strikers also took the award for Team of the Year.
Crown Trace FC and Cap Off Youths FC received trophies for the top two respective finishes in the Under-15 competition. The Referee of the Year award went to Jevan Gosine, who received a plaque for officiating the most matches during the season.
CFA President Bryan Layne welcomed those in attendance before national cricket team manager Omar Khan gave the feature address. He indicated that success is not a destination, but a journey.
The event was also attended by Vice-President of the T&T Football Federation (T&TFF), Rudy Thomas, and Deputy Chairman of the TTFF Referees’ Committee, Neville Ferguson.
