Premier Division champion Point Fortin Civic Centre (PFCC) won its third title of the season, on Saturday, when it took a penalty-kick win in the final of the Southern Football Association (SFA) League Cup competition, over T&TEC.
The electric match was staged at Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin, with the eventual loser, T&TEC finding a last minute equaliser to send the match into extra time, after Civic Centre had, by all indications, won the match outright.
It was a strike a minute from the end of the first half from former Belgium-based and current W Connection midfielder Matthew Bartholomew, which put PFCC a goal up until the final minute of regulation time.
Into time added on, T&TEC was kept alive by a goal from Jevon John. It was not to be for the “Electricity Boys” which succumbed at the penalty spot. In the deciding spot kicks, PFCC proved superior and took the shootout 3-0.
PFCC advanced to the final of the competition, after a two-legged 3-1 aggregate win over Marabella Family Crisis Centre. T&TEC made it to the title match win a thrilling 9-5 aggregate victory over the University of T&T (UTT).
PFCC, champion of the SFA Premier Division, the League Cup competition and the Executive Cup will enter the Champions of Champions competition, a qualification tournament for the National Super League, T&T’s second tier football league.
