The 9th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team badly needed a victory, and they produced in an exciting 6-5 double-overtime win over visiting Webber International when Matt Watts knocked home a penalty kick with only 2:30 left to play.

The Rams began the game like they would roll to an easy victory, picking up a 2-0 lead in the first 23 minutes of action. Geert Slits opened the scoring at the 10:30 mark when he flicked home a feed from David Maddren and Thomas Wharf. Wharf added the second tally 12 minutes later by heading home a corner kick from Ruben Diaz.

But, the visitors got a pair of break-away goals over the next 15 minutes to tie the game at 2-2. The Rams bounced back and went into the break with a 3-2 lead as Jason Providence scored off a feed from Diaz.

After the two teams traded goals to begin the second half of play, Webber International got goals in the 71st and 78th minute from Calixto Lopez and Ivan Arias to take a 1-goal lead. The score stayed 5-4 in favor of the visitors until only 8:30 remaining in regulation, when Morgan Copes headed home a corner kick from Diaz to force OT.

Following a scoreless first overtime period, a handball in the box set Watts up with his opportunity. Mobile out shot Webber 26-18 and Jason Williams finished with 5 saves in goal for the Rams.

Diaz finished with a goal and three assists, and Slits, Wharf, Watts, Providence, and Copes added goals for Mobile. The Rams (2-2) return to action at home Tuesday, September 9th at 6:00 pm when Mississippi College comes to town.
