Six different Manhattanville Valiants scored on the afternoon to give the men’s soccer team a 7-1 victory over John Jay College on Saturday at GoValiants.com Field. Manhattanville got its final two goals of the contest from junior Kenneil Haye (Queens, N.Y.), as the team outshot their opponents 24-3 in the contest.
Senior Mike Abbondondolo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season in the 30th minute past Bloodhounds goalie Joseph Rahilly on a straight run to the goal after a pass from senior Anthony Ferraro (Bronx, N.Y.).
Keeping with the first-time goal scorers, junior Jeferson Echeverria (Islip, N.Y.) scored his first of the season on a two-on-one breakout play with freshman J.P. Arenas (White Plains, N.Y.) just over six minutes later to give the Valiants a 3-0 lead over the Bloodhounds.
Heading into the locker room, the Valiants outshot their opponents 12-2 in the first half.
In the 50th minute, Manhattanville caught a lucky break from the referees as the Valiants were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore Keston George (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) stepped to the spot and found the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Manhattanville’s attack gave the team another goal two minutes after George's penalty kick, when the Valiants pushed a three-on-one break out with Arenas, George, and Haye. Arenas finally put the shot into the back of the net, crediting George and Haye with the assists.
Manhattanville finished off the contest in the 56th and 65th minutes of play, when Haye scored his two goals. Ferraro got the assist on the first goal, which was a rebounded shot that was put in by Haye. The junior's second goal came on a breakaway and was unassisted.
John Jay spoiled the Valiant shutout attempt in the 77th minute, as the Bloodhounds got on the board in the 77th minute with a tally by Kareen Roberts.
Manhattanville finished the game with 24 shots on goal and eight corner kicks while John Jay had three shots and zero corner kicks. In the net junior Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y.) made a single save and allowed one goal for his fourth victory of the season. Rahilly made 12 saves allowing seven goals.
Manhattanville (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Freedom) will return to the field on Wednesday as the Valiants travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
