The LSU Shreveport men’s soccer team used four goals in the second half to defeat the Texas Wesleyan Rams on Saturday night at Martin Field.
The Pilots (6-4, 4-1 RRAC) trailed at the half, 1-0, but came out strong in the second half for their fourth consecutive win. Leonardo Reyes (5th of the season) scored off a header from a Steven Bush cross off a corner kick to tie the game at one during the 51st minute of the game.
LSUS kept the momentum going in the favor when Bush had a one-on-one opportunity as he chipped it over the keepers shoulder for the go-ahead goal and his first goal of the year at the 51st minutes to give the Pilots a 2-1 lead.
The scoring would not end there as Reyes got his second goal of the game, his 6th of the season, after a crisp pass from Charles Tweve at the 75th minute.
TWU bounced back with a goal to cut into the Pilot’s lead at the 75th mark as Chase Richeson scored unassisted.
LSUS then got a break as Larry Edwards was fouled inside the box to allow the Pilots an opportunity for a penalty kick that was taken Tweve who scored his first goal of the year at the 84th minute to put the Pilots back up by two, 4-2.
The Rams would be good for one more goal as they were also on the better end of a penalty kick as Ricardo Aguilera scored his fifth goal of the year at the 86th minute but it would not be enough as the Pilots controlled the rest of the game for the win.
The Pilots have now won four games in a row while the Rams have lost five straight. The win puts the Pilots in a tie for second place in the RRAC standings with Huston-Tillotson.
“This is a huge win for us. Now we control our own destiny. The guys played extremely hard and did not get down each time Wesleyan came back. You have to give them credit, they have a great team and this was a fun game to be a part of,” said LSUS head coach Krasi Kolarov.
The next game for the Pilots will be Thursday, Oct. 23, at 3:00 p.m. as the Pilots return to the Swamp to take on the Texas College Steers (4-4-2, 3-2 RRAC). Texas College defeated Our Lady of the Lake University in double overtime 3-2 on Saturday.
