Individual honors continue to roll in for the 2010 Saint Leo men’s soccer team, as three Lions earned Daktronics All-South Region second team accolades, it was announced Tuesday. The trio of performers includes the senior duo of Bruce Cutler and Jonathan Glenn, and freshman standout Edgar Herrera.

In total, five Sunshine State Conference schools were represented on the first and seconds teams, in addition to three Gulf South Conference teams. Barry midfielder Sascha Koettig was tabbed South Region Player of the Year behind a 10 goal, nine assist campaign.

11 of the 13 first team selections hailed from the SSC, including four from conference co-champion, Barry. The Lions saw each of their three representatives on the second team list, where only Rollins placed more on the squad (four).

On the Saint Leo side, Cutler and Glenn found themselves being garnered with the same accolade for the third time this postseason. Outside of their Daktronics selections, the two have been voted CoSIDA All-Region and All-Sunshine State Conference selectees.  In addition, this marks the second time in Glenn’s career he has been named Daktronics second team. On the other side, it is the first selection for both Cutler and Herrera.

Statistically, Cutler had a phenomenal senior campaign. He was second on the team in goals scored with six, and set a career-high in assists with six finishing with 18 points. He owned three game-winning tallies and competed in a team-best 1244 minutes of action.

Glenn wrapped-up his career with a seven goal, two assist 2010 season. He scored one game-winning goal and completed the year 16 points. He also went down in the Saint Leo records book as scoring the fifth-most goals in program history with 41.

The newly crowned SSC Freshman of the Year, Herrera found himself leading the team in nearly every offensive category. He finished second in the conference with 11 goals and tied for the team lead in assists with six. He registered 28 points and amassed three game-winning goals. In 1050 minutes of action, the Four Oaks, N.C. native started every game during his first year with the Lions.

Voting for the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II South Region Men’s Soccer Team was powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM and voted on by the regional members of D2-SIDA.

Following the Daktronics release, attention now turns to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team announcement, which is scheduled for Thursday, November 18. Cutler, who was an Academic All-Region First Team selection, is up for consideration. Stay tuned to SaintLeoLions.com for more.
