University of South Florida men's soccer head coach George Kiefer has announced that the program has added two transfers to its roster for the upcoming 2011 season joining the eight newcomers that previously signed National Letters of Intent.
Highlighting the duo is former Michigan net minder Chris Blais (Seattle, Wash./Michigan/Kennedy Memorial H.S.) who helped guide the Wolverines to the 2010 Men's Soccer Final Four. Blais posted a 17-5-3 record last season with a 1.31 goals against average and a .763 save percentage. He recorded 106 saves on the year with four shutouts. His 17 wins this past season is a school single season record.
The Seattle native was tabbed the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Tournament for its championship before posting a 3-1 record in the NCAA Tournament. Blais led Michigan to tournament wins over UCF (2-1, ot), at No. 7 South Carolina (3-1), and at No. 2 Maryland (3-2, 2ot) before losing to No. 2 - and eventual national champion - Akron (2-1) in the national semifinals.
A 6-4, 195-pound goalkeeper, Blais was a three-time member of the Big Ten's All-Academic Team (2008-10) and was named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All-District selection in 2009. He also earned Michigan's Athletic Academic Achievement Award from 2007-10.
Joining Blais is 5-8, 145-pound midfielder Isaiah Ferguson (Port St. Lucie, Fla./USC Upstate/Treasure Coast H.S.) who comes to USF from USC-Upstate.
Ferguson, has extensive international experience with Trinidad & Tobago as a member of its numerous national teams including, most recently, its 2011 National U-20 World Cup qualifying team. He has also played for the Trinidad & Tobago National U-17 World Cup qualifying team (2007).
In the United States, Ferguson, was a member of the USA's National U-18 team camp.
While in high school at Treasure Coast, Ferguson led the team in goals and was first team All-Area and first team All-Treasure Lake Conference, in addition to team Most Valuable Player.
