Montreat College men's soccer team improved to 4-1 on the season after they defeated Warren Wilson College 3-1.The first half saw a frustrated Cavalier team as they struggled to score, despite dominating possession. The Cavs were wasteful in front of goal and would go in at the half tied 0-0.

The second half would see a change of tactic implemented by coach Dasher that yielded the breakthrough for Montreat. Craig Wilson and Maxi Viera linked up to provide the opening goal of the match in the 58th minute. Viera started the play on the left side to Wilson who then returned a whipped in cross that was headed into the goal by a leaping Viera. Minutes later, Leo Walker made it 2-0 in the 66th minute after he beautifully volleyed home another of Craig Wilson's left sided cross.

The Owls responded in the form of Lincoln Bressor who made it 2-1, but the Cavs added an insurance goal with seven minutes from time to earn the victory. Javier Cuellar played in Viera who rounded the keeper to score his second goal of the game.

Coach Riccardi said, "This is really the first time we executed our game plan well and all the hard work put in up until now...worked."

Montreat returns to action on Saturday, Sept 10 when they host Southern Polytechnic State University at the Howard Fisher Memorial Field. Southern Poly is currently ranked 5th in the nation and today NAIA.org reported, "No. 5 Southern Poly (Ga.) became the first team to reach five wins this year with a 2-1 victory against Faulkner (Ala.) on Wednesday. The Hornets have reached at least 12 victories in each of the past three seasons".

"We are hoping to put in the work this week to prepare for this huge game. We have many pieces in place to get the job done and pray He finishes enough work in us before Saturday to get the result we desire," says Coach Dasher.
