Montreat's men's soccer team got their first win in the AAC on Saturday night after they defeated Virginia Intermont 1-0.

The Cavs were able to grind out a victory despite horrible pitch conditions and a resilient Cobra defense. The first half was dominated by Montreat. Allan Jackson, Caesar Lopez and Leo Walker all had goal scoring opportunities to put the Cavs in front but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. The first half would end goalless.

The second half saw more from the home side but Craig Wilson and the Montreat defense held tight and prevented any real chances.  "Wilson played one of the best games I've seen an outside back play.  He was there for us to shut down their right side and constantly whipped in balls from the flank to give us a number of offensive chances. " said Coach Dasher.  The Cavs struggled to score as the game approached the end. However in the 75th minute, Maxi Viera's speculative shot from 25 yards was good enough to beat the Cobra's goalkeeper and give Montreat their 1-0 victory.  The goal gives Viera 11 goals and 26 points on the season, raking him in the top ten in both categories in the nation.

The men's soccer team are now 1-1 in AAC play and 5-3 overall. They will return to action on Sat. Oct 1, when they play conference rivals Tennessee Wesleyan for their Homecoming.
