Glenavon have completed the prize capture of World Cup defender Atiba Charles.
The 28-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international has received a work permit and is expected to jet in to Northern Ireland later this week.
Charles was part of Trinidad's World Cup squad in Germany and although he didn't make an appearance, was on the bench as the Caribbean island came close to reaching the second round.
The defender played alongside Aaron Black during the Glenavon captain's stint with Caribbean outfit Western Connection last year.
Black has kept in touch with Charles since returning to Northern Ireland and persuaded him that a move to the Irish League could be a stepping stone to an eventual transfer to the full-time game in England or Scotland.
Glenavon boss Colin Malone believes Charles' arrival will capture the imagination of the Lurgan public.
"It's great news for the club and great for the supporters that they can come along and see a bit of quality on the park,'' he said.
"Atiba has to be quality because he is an international with 30'odd caps, he should be that bit of a level above us.''
Malone expects Charles to eventually move on, perhaps even in the January transfer window, but in the meantime he will help the Lurgan Blues overcome what has been a rocky start to the season.
"Atiba is the ideal partner for Aaron Black," Malone added.
"He will do well for us although there are complications with it in that he wants to move on to a Premier League club in England.
"But it's a good shop window and he knows he has to do the business here before he can go anywhere else."
Glenavon want to hand Charles his debut in Friday night's clash with Linfield at Windsor Park but delays with paperwork could scupper their hopes of giving a debut to their newest recruit.
