Former Joe Public head coach Michael Mc Comie has not accepted the offer to become Ma Pau FC head coach for the 2009 season. When contacted yesterday McComie denied Thursday’s report that he was the club’s new coach. He said: “I’m not Ma Pau’s coach.” McComie, a former flambouyant goalkeeper both at club and national levels said yesterday that his involvement with Ma Pau was just a short training stint.

“So far this season in my capacity as a national coach I have assisted some teams with their preparations—St Ann’s Rangers, bmobile Joe Public and Ma Pau, but I’m not the coach for any of these clubs,” said Mc Comie, an assistant to Zoran Vranes with the national Under-20 team that qualified for the Fifa World Youth Cup in Egypt later this year. However, it was confirmed that former national player and coach at CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh Angus Eve is the club’s lead candidate to take over the coaching duties.

When contacted yesterday, Eve, a former captain of the Soca Warriors said: “Yes, I’m interested in the position. It will be a great opportunity for me and Ma Pau to grow.” On Wednesday Ma Pau issued a release which stated that the club had booted out Brazilian Ubirajara Veiga Da Silva as head coach. Eve, who was a senior player and youth coach at Jabloteh for he past eight years said he had decided to move on. Da Silva, who had a lot to prove after arriving in T&T two months ago, failed to kick off the 2009 season.

Da Silva was supposed to have been the man to work wonders at the club after finalising a two year contract replacing last season’s coach Ron La Forest, a former national stand-out. However, after serving two months in pre-season, the 54 year old Da Silva who previously coached in Peru, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Korea, India and Brazil failed to deliver, and experienced his shortest stint ever while in Trinidad.
