Five clubs, including defending champions MAASH International, have secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Eddie Hart Football League (EHFL) being contested at the Eddie Hart Savannah (EHS) in Tacarigua.
The four teams are Santos FC (14 points) runners-up in Group A behind champs MAASH (16 points, with one game still to be played), Spain Slappers (15) and Petit Bourg Youths (13)-winners and runners-up in Group B, respectively, and victors of Group C Bon Air FC, who have 16 points with a game in hand.
The other three spots are likely to come from the bunch of Parliament FC and Trincity Nationals from Group B and CAPS, Paradise FC and El Do Milan out of Group C.
In Group B, Parliament (nine points) needed to beat RSSR last night by four clear goals to finish ahead of Trincity Nationals (12) to stake a claim for one of the two best third place finishers from across the three groups.
In Group C, sub Steffon Peters came on mid-way into the second session to provide the game's winner in the dying moment to give his side Paradise a vital three points via a 2-1 triumph over CAPS.
The win in the feature game of a doubleheader at the EHS enabled Paradise to move into second spot on goal difference over CAPS. Both clubs now have 11 points, but CAPS have completed their group fixtures, while Paradise still have a game in hand.
Paradise will now require full points in their last outing to be absolutely sure of second berth in Group C, ahead of El Do Milan.
If Milan and Parliament win their final game, they will join Trincity Nationals on 12 points and goal difference will decide the final two big eight spots.
At present, Trincity have the best goal difference of the trio with plus-four. Parliament are at plus-one and Milan zero going into their last matches.
On the other side, if Parliament defeat RSSR by three clear goals tonight, they and Trincity Nationals will end with identical records and will have to enter a play-off. And if Milan lose their last game in Group C, they will remain on nine points, lettingCAPS thorough as third place finishers in the group.
In the first game on Tuesday, Slappers ended their group campaign with a goalless draw with lowly RSSR.
On Monday evening at the same venue, champs MAASH had to work overtime before coming away with a tough 2-0 win over a goal-shy University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) outfit. Skipper Stevon Stoute and Colin Williams were the providers for MAASH.
And over the last weekend, Bon Air, who are seeking their maiden EHFL title after five seasons, stopped CAPS 2-0, while five champions Parliament stayed alive for a space in the last eight with a fighting 2-1 success over Dingle Boys. Both games were part of doubleheaders card at the EHS last Saturday.
