This year’s “The Best of 45 and counting” Eddie Hart Football League comprising 80 teams in six divisions will kick-off at the Eddie Hart Grounds, Tacarigua, starting at 2.30 pm. More than $200,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs in the coming season.
As tradition, there will be a parade of teams to commence the activities. Present will be the Minister of Sport Anil Roberts and former T&T footballer and Joe Public manager Sam Phillip to take the salute.
More than 50 awards will be distributed to players at a prize giving presentation segment. Everald “Gally” Cummings, Selwyn Murren, Wilfred “Bound to Score” Cave, Monty and Keith Douglas, Dick Furlonge, Devonish Paul, Keith Renaud, Gerry Brown, Leroy de Leon, Baby Headley, Buggy Haynes, Selris Figaro, Jamal Shabazz, Gwenwyn Cust, Godfrey Harris, Nobbie Phillip, and Earl “Spiderman” Carter, among others will also receive tokens of appreciation.
Four exhibition matches are carded for the day. Maloney Real Footballers will take on San Juan Jabloteh (Juvenile Division), Trincity Nationals challenge Defence Force in a women’s match. Eddie Hart League plays Trinity East College while 2010 Champions Paradise takes on M.A.A.S.H International.
The teams are drawn from Manzanilla to Port-of-Spain, spanning the entire East/West corridor. There will be a “Big 6 Pantastic Shoot-out” with Neal and Massy Trinidad All Starts, WITCO Desperadoes, Pamberi Cordettes, Joylanders, and Gonzales Sheikers.
Dinsley Tassa Drummers will start the afternoon’s proceedings. Music will be supplied from DJ’s KC Class Is Class, Fro Hammer and radio station Next 99.1; there will also be a performance from the T&T Police Band and Prisons Band. Errol Fabien and Cathy Ashby are the MCs for the event. All are invited to attend.
