ADIL CUMMINGS netted a doubled on Saturday as North Oropouche got past East Boys 3-2 to stay in contention for a place in the next round of the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond ‘9-a-side’ Football League.
In a game where they never trailed, North Oropouche were made to work hard for the three points by a determined East Boys team.
Ronnell Rampersad fired them into the lead with a goal in the first minute to take control of the match from the opening whistle.
Cummings scored his first in the 20th but five minutes later Keish Charles halved the deficit as North Oropouche went into the break 2-1 ahead.
East Boys, outplayed in the first period, got back into the contest with a goal immediately upon the resumption through Kurt Richardson.
Cummings was not done, however, and restored the advantage for North Oropouche with his second item.
And Codey Henderson ended East Boys hopes of a comeback with a crucial goal to make it 4-2. Charles got his brace to pull East Boys within one but it was too late as North Oropouche held on for the victory.
Yesterday, title challengers Boys Town took on the woeful Fishing Pond FC who have proven to be the “whipping boys” of the competition.
