Defending blink/bmobile National Super League champion, WASA FC, claimed its first win on the pitch for the season with only six fixtures remaining, when an own goal moments from full-time awarded the Waterboys a 3-2 win over Real Maracas, on Sunday.

WASA’s win was its first of the campaign, apart from a default victory earlier this season. The fixture was played simultaneously with league leader Club Sando’s 4-1 win over Tobago’s 1976 FC Phoenix, and runner-up Malabar FC’s 5-1 triumph over Westside Superstarz.

In WASA’s FC’s must needed win, following two early goals from Dwight Crichlow (10th) and Fabian Garcia (23rd), the reigning league champion enjoyed a positive 2-0 lead in the first half, before Dillon Bartholomew counted a comeback for Maracas, which was completed by a goal from teammate Jahhan Hernandez, a former WASA FC forward who scored the equalizing goal in the 77th minute.

The match seemed to be heading for a draw, but for an own goal in the 88th minute, which saw WASA lift itself off the foot of the table into 12th in the 13-team standings.

FC Santa Rosa, which returned to the bottom of the table, suffered a 1-0 loss to Bethel United concurrently.

At the end of this season, the three teams to finish at the bottom of the standings will face relegation, which two other teams will be promoted from the Champions of Champions National Super League qualification tournament.
