Jamaican Roen Nelson of Joe Public is quite likely to be crowned the leading goalscorer in the National Super Football League after all.

Nelson, who notched 30 goals in the league series, was relegated to second spot when last year’s top marksman, Marlon Warner, netted 10 goals for L-Sporto Crab Connection against WASA Clean and White last month, to carry his tally from 25 to 35.

However, following an investigation by the T&T Football Federation into the result of the match, which ended 15-13 in WASA’s favour, the word is that the match has been declared null and void.

But there was no confirmation yesterday from Richard Piper, an official of the organising committee.

If the match is declared null and void, Nelson will walk away with the leading goalscorer title.

The league standings will not be affected, with Joe Public being the champion team and Crab Connection the runner-up. Piper said yesterday:

“They (the TTFF) hasn’t informed us, at this point in time, of their decision and therefore, it’s not official,” he stated.

Caribbean Football Union secretary Harold Taylor was given the mandate by the TTFF to investigate the result of the September 24 match. Taylor has handed in his findings, but was unavailable yesterday to clarify the matter, as he is in Mexico with the T&T team for the World Cup qualifier against that country.
