Leaders bmobile Joe Public moved three matches closer to the 2009 bmobile National Super League title with a win over WASA at its home ground in St Joseph, yesterday.
The “Eastern Lions”, aiming to regain the title which was vacated by the 2008 winners the National Under-20 team, claimed a 3-1 win over the utility company. Donovan Derrick who netted a double, opened the scoring in the first minute, before completing a double in the 14th.
Wasa was given hope in the 34th minute when star player Michael Lee Celestine found the net. But it was not to be the water boys’ day and Anthony Thompson sealed the issue in the last minute of regulation time.
Public moved to 51 points from 21 matches, with T&TEC which has played a match less, is second with 45 points.
The ‘Electricity Boys’ claimed a 3-1 win over Economy Strikers at Sangre Grande, to keep its title hopes alive. Shatton Ollivierre opened the scoring for T&TEC in the 10th minute and Strikers equalised through Carlon Hughes in the 25th minute.
Anthony Noriega restored T&TEC’s lead two minutes later before Sylvester Teesdale completed the result with a strike in the 30th minute.
