Super League outfit 1976 F.C. Phoenix welcomed the opportunity to test their skills against foreign opposition at the Canaan Recreation Ground recently.
Mado All Stars (MAS), a team comprising of English and M.L.S. players, Brent Sancho, Osei Telesford, Leslie "Tiger" Fitzpatrick, Gary Glasgow, Kendall Jagdeosingh, Kevaughn Connell, Kelvin Jack, Makan Hislop and cyclist Ako Kellar engaged the local team which finished fourth in the 2009 National Super League campaign.
Team organiser Brent Sancho explained that the players get together during the English winter break and the off season in the MLS to keep themselves active by playing exhibition games around the country.. Flight problems however caused some of the players to miss the game.
The only thing missing in an entertaining first half was goals. This eventually came off the boot of Phoenix's Lejandro Williams in the 60th minute of play.
Joel Alleyne playing as a guest player for the visitors equalized from the penalty spot after Jerome Dickinson was brought down in the area in the eightieth minute of play.
With the game ending 1-1 at the end of regulation time, penalty kicks decided the winner. Phoenix held their nerve to win the game 4-3 on penalties in sudden death. MAS had previously held the National U-23 to a 1-1 draw a few days earlier.
