WASA overpower Valtrin for 4th win

Akil Paynter gave Valtrin a 11th minute lead before WASA responded with a hat-trick from Mervyn Brooks, in the 20th, 29th and 50th minutes, while Michael-Lee Celestine sealed the emphatic victory with a 66th minute item.

Another player to score a treble was evergreen forward Sherman Phillip, to guide Defence Force to a 3-2 win over Harvard at the Youth Camp in Chaguaramas.

Phillip gave Defence Force a 2-0 half-time lead, with strikes in the 16th and 40th minutes, before Christon Freitas reduced the deficit for Harvard in the 53rd. Phillip completed his hat-trick in the 56th and the hosts held on for full points, despite a last-minute goal from Harvard’s Omari Samuel.

Ex-national forward Nigel Pierre was unable to guide Queen’s Park to a win, as they allowed Stokely Vale to earn a come-from-behind triumph at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain.

Pierre scored in the 29th but Stokely Vale’s Tyrone Manning proved to be the hero, as he found the back of the net in the 39th and 82nd to snatch victory from the jaws of the defeat.

Jesse Downing netted a double as Club Sando edged hosts St Francois Nationals 2-1 at the Dibe Recreation Ground, St James.

Downing scored in the 35th and 41st and Sando held firm until the end, despite a late consolation from Keron Edwards, five minutes from full- time.

Defending champs Joe Public slipped to fourth after a 1-1 draw with 1976 FC Phoenix at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

Veteran striker Dominique Kerr put Phoenix in front in the 13th minute but Marcus Baptiste snatched a last minute equaliser for the hosts.

Match Day Five action will be contested today.
