Christmas came early this year for 50 primary school footballers. The top 25 girls and 25 boys were selected from the just concluded Atlantic-sponsored National Primary School Football League and District competitions to work with two top Manchester United skill development coaches, Eamon Mulvey and Kevin Ward.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United, would be proud to see what a positive effect his coaches had on the young primary school footballers. The Atlantic weekend camp which ran December 10-12 was a huge success. The three-day camp exposed local coaches to another view of the developmental process—the Manchester United way.
The top Under-14 players were given instruction by the leading development coaches. Dion La Foucade, head coach of the Dion La Foucade Coaching Clinic played an instrumental role in ensuring the Manchester United coaches came to T&T.
Ward and Mulvey, who conducted the three-day Atlantic-sponsored camp held at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, were very happy with the performance of the young players and urged them to continue filling their “tool kit”, referring to the skill, knowledge and experience that is necessary for the player’s development in the game.
