FORWARD Chelsea Gibbs netted another double as St Augustine claimed the Secondary Schools Football League Girls East Zone title.

On Sunday they received their eighth consecutive victory of the tournament, a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing of El Dorado East at St Agustine Ground, Warren Street.

The “Green Machine” girls, who have overshadowed the boys, have not conceded a goal thus far for the season and won the title with two matches still to play. Last season St Augustine had to settle for second as San Juan took the title.

Gustine put the match away early as they scored four goals in the first-half including a double from Gibbs. Ke’ Die Johnson got things started putting her team ahead in the first five minutes of the match.

Then it was time for Gibbs to take centre stage as she found the net with her first before Celeste Thomas made it 3-0. The nippy Gibbs then gave her team a 4-0 cushion netting her second before the break.

The second period saw a better defensive performance from the “Blue Thunder” girls, as their opponents were only able to add one more goal which came from Adanya Phillip.

Head coach Desiree Sargeant said she was proud of the way her team has performed this season. “The girls went out there and did what they had to do and they worked to our plans and it paid off for us in the end.”

Sargeant said while her team has not been fully tested by any team in the East Zone, she was eagerly looking forward to a clash with National champions Debe when the zonal winners meet.
