With two schools, Debe (South) and St Augustine (East) already confirming a top spot in their respective BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls’ Championship divisions, focus has shifted to the competitive North Zone where a league champion may be decided, when defending champions St Francois hosts Providence at President’s Ground, St Ann’s, today.

A win for either team will see it secure the title outright, as Providence plays its last match of the League Championship, while St Francois remains with one match remaining. Providence currently leads the five team standings with 15 points. A win for Providence will put it on an unassailable 18 points, five more than St Francois, which will have to settle for a second place finish.

Granted the two teams play to a draw, St Francois will still trail Providence, but will have the opportunity to leapfrog the team in its final round match on Sunday, when it takes on St Joseph’s Convent.

However, St Francois will be looking for an outright win today, rather than taking it to the final round, against St Joseph, a team which it has already lost to 4-3, in the first round.

Unlike the North Zone, five of the six teams in the Tobago Zone has as strong a chance to taking the zonal title, with two regular fixtures, and several rescheduled matches to be played.

The round of matches to be contested today is the reverse of the fourth match day in the first round, which remains to be played.

Signal Hill, which is tied for first place on 12 points with two other teams, will challenge Speyside, which is three points behind.
