Reigning BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Big-Five winner, Presentation College of San Fernando and St Augustine Secondary, the defending national InterCol champion, will both be seeking their first points of the new SSFL Premier Division, when they meet in the feature match of the round, today, at St Augustine Secondary Ground. That fixture and all six others will kick off at the same time, 3.45 pm.

Neither Presentation nor St Augustine got the welcome they expected to the newly formatted league structure. St Augustine, playing on Thursday, the opening day of the season was handed a resounding 3-0 defeat by St Mary’s College, a team it also lost to at the semi-final stage of the Big Five competition last year.

Presentation College, meanwhile, which won the league title last year with a penalty kick win over St Mary’s, was also soundly beaten, 3-2, by Arima North Secondary in the opening round. While the two beaten teams meet, there will be a simultaneous clash between a pair of teams which won their opening round matches.

St Anthony’s College, which was reduced to nine players in its 4-2 win over Trinity College East, on Thursday, will face St Benedict’s College, which eased past East Mucurapo Secondary 2-0. Naparima College (2-1 winner over San Juan North) will meet St Mary’s College at Naparaima Ground, in another early top-of-the table clash.

Meanwhile, the Tobago Zone of the Championship Division kicked off yesterday and will continue and conclude the first round with a meeting between Pentecostal L&L and Scarborough Secondary. Speyside, the reigning league and InterCol champion eased past Bishop’s, 3-0.
