SOUTH Zone leaders Naparima College and Mayaro Composite will clash in Mayaro this afternoon in an all-important top-of-the-table fixture in the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League.

Naparima, who are the defending zonal champions, are yet to taste defeat this season having accumulated 16 points from four wins and four drawn encounters in their eight matches to date.

And with just five games left after today's fixture, they will be looking to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack.

Mayaro, on the other hand, have won five of their eight games and drawn one to also tally 16 points, but they have also suffered two defeats in the process.

With their high work rate it would not be surprising if they came prepared to throw everything at Naparima.

Third-place Princes Town Senior Comprehensive are at home to Vessigny Secondary and that is a match they must win if they are to stay in touch with the top two.

They had a relatively good start to their campaign and had two successive victories in rounds five and six with a 1-0 triumph over St Benedict's before hammering Moruga 5-1.

But their last two assignments were disappointing as they were upset 2-0 by Fyzabad last Tuesday and then had to settle for a 1-1 draw against bottom-of-the-table Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive on Thursday. They have home advantage today and will need all three points to draw closer to "Naps" and Mayaro.

Benedict's are fourth in the standings and though they face Fyzabad Composite, that could be a tricky assignment.

After going six matches without a victory, Fyzabad have won their last two outings to climb two notches, and their recent winning attitude could be a dangerous proposition for any opponent.

Rounding off today's card is a bottom-of-the-table clash between Pleasantville and Moruga Composite, with P/Ville enjoying home advantage.
