The 2008 BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) kicks off today with action in four zones.
In the East, Hillview College will challenge Trinity College East from 3:45 p.m. Down South, Siparia are scheduled to lock horns with St Benedict's College at Siparia at that same time. And in Central, Carapichaima host Preysal.
The action in Tobago gets underway next Tuesday with a doubleheader at Goodwood. Scarborough Secondary go up against Speyside from 3 p.m. before Mason Hill Secondary oppose Roxborough Composite at 5 p.m. on that day.
Last year's InetrCol winners and record six-time InterCol champs Naparima College start their campaign against old rivals Presentation College at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium tomorrow from 5 p.m.
Action is also scheduled to begin in the Girls competition at a date to be determined in October.
Yesterday, the 2008 SSFL campaign was officially launched in the BG T&T Corporate Box at the Queen's Park Oval, St Clair.
At the launch, which marked BG T&T's sixth consecutive year of sponsorship of Secondary Schools football, BG T&T Government and Stakeholders manager, Mark Regis said the SSFL sponsorship was part of the company's $1.2 million budget for sport and youth development.
SSFL president Ewing Davis stated that the league would be engaging the services of experts in marketing to help draw the crowds back to secondary schools football. However, he did not provide details of the marketing promotion intitiatives that would be undertaken.
