The quartet of St Anthony’s College (North), Carapichaima East (Central), Couva West (Central) and Signal Hill (Tobago) will hope to keep their 100 per cent winning records intact when the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League resumes today with a full slate of matches.
In the North Zone, the “Westmoorings Tigers” as St Anthony’s is known have won their five matches to date for maximum 15 points, five ahead of nearest challengers East Mucurapo Secondary after a 4-1 triumph over cellar placed Malick Secondary on Friday, and will be favourites to pick up a sixth win when they entertain Queen’s Royal College at its Morne Coco Road, Westmoorings Ground from 3.45 pm.
The Royalians, who have endured an inconsistent campaign so far are fourth with seven points, but are coming off their most impressive showing so far a 4-0 shut-out of Trinity College and will be keen to stop the rampant Tigers.
East Mucurapo, coming off a 3-2 loss to the tableleaders a week ago host Malick at Fatima Grounds, Mucurapo Road while St Mary’s College and Trinity do battle at Serpentine Road, St Clair.
At the Ato Boldon Stadium, Central zone front-runner Couva West Secondary, winner of its three matches to date will face its biggest test of the season in defending champion, Carapichaima, which has won its lone match to date, 10-0 over Tabaquite Secondary and has another before the Disciplinary Committee.
In the other two Central matches, Tabaquite hosts Waterloo Secondary while Gasparillo Secondary and Presentation College meet at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. In Tobago, reigning champion, Signal Hill (six points) will have its eyes set on regaining top spot on goal-difference from idle Scarborough Secondary (nine points).
Scarborough is on a bye today, while Signal Hill is at home to Pentecostal Light & Life, and Mason Hall travels to Speyside Secondary.
Having taken charge of the East Zone standings with a 2-0 win over previous leader San Juan North Secondary (eight points) in a re-schedule match on Monday, defending zonal and national champion, St Augustine Secondary (ten points) will journey to Squadron Ground for its meeting with Trinity East brimming with confidence.
With San Juan on a bye today, joint second placed El Dorado East can also open up some breathing room with a victory over hapless Barataria South, which has already let in 48 goals in five matches while Toco is at home to Arima North.
Down South, current leader Presentation College (12 points) will face a possible points deduction on Thursday after yesterday’s matter was postponed after it asked for an extension to put together a defence.
Today, however at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 3 pm, Presentation can make up the expected points penalty with a win over Pleasantville Secondary, which is joint second with ten points.
Two hours later at the same venue, title-holder Naparima (seven points), which is expected to benefit from the matter involving Presentation will hope to enhance its quest for a title repeat by heaping more pressure of struggling St Benedict’s, which is bottom of the table, with a meagre point. In another key South match, Shiva Boys’ also with ten points travels to Princes Town.
