JOE PUBLIC made almost a clean sweep of the Premier Division titles when the Trinidad and Tobago Women's Football Association held its end-of-season awards function last Sunday at the Central Indoor Sports Arena, Saith Park, Chaguanas.
Joe Public, the 2004 League and FA Trophy winners, took the Most Valuable Player award through Leslie Ann James; the Golden Boot award via Jinelle James; Top Striker Aveanne Douglas and they also had Nicole Mitchell, voted the Best Goalkeeper, in their squad.
Moruga's Dernelle Mascall (Best Midfielder) and Real Dimension captain Kia Rigsby (Best Defender) were among the few to stop the Joe Public sweep.
Striker Jinelle James won the Golden Boot award after her 23 goals led Joe Public to both the 2004 league and knockout titles.
Her club and T&T national teammate Leslie Ann James was named the League's Most Valuable Player.
Leslie Ann, a veteran defender with both Joe Public and T&T, had a serious injury scare last January when playing for Trinidad and Tobago against a visiting Canadian Under-19 team at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
Nicknamed "Lady Roberto Carlos" because of her thick thighs, James fell heavily and sustained a neck injury after being felled by the full impact of the ball which struck her hard in the face as she tried to prevent a cross from a Canadian attacker.
Knocked unconscious for some 15 minutes, she was eventually taken to hospital and later discharged. James recovered to have an excellent season while playing as a defender for Joe Public.
