Siparia Spurs completed a hat-trick of titles in the Southern Football Association Petrotrin Super League after a default win over Uprising Youths at Irwin Park Recreation Ground, Siparia on Saturday.
With the three gifted points, Spurs pushed their points tally to an unassailable 46 with two matches left to play and four clear of second placed Penal Rock Road which only has one match outstanding.
For their third straight SFA triumph, Spurs which will now contest the T&T Football Federation Champion of Champions competition with the hope of qualifying for the bmobile National Super League collected $15,000. At Penal, Keston Rivero banged in a beaver-trick as Penal Rock Road steamrolled Giants 8-3.
Clay Thompson added a double for the winner while Irvin Williams and Keston London added one each to cancel out Cuz Mitchell (two) and Troy Reece’s item for Giants.
Despite its win, Penal Rock Road still needs a victory from its last league match to grab the $10,000 runner-up prize ahead of Anthony Cook “Big-Four” winner OJ Soldado All Stars and La Brea All Stars, both with 37 points and two and three matches left to play respectively.
OJ Soldado All Stars missed out on a chance to close that gap after it showed it for its match against Petrotrin Palo Seco, with the less than required number of players to take the field while Penal All Stars clobbered Diamond United 5-2 led by a beaver-trick from Edward Parson.
In the Roy Jagroopsingh Second Division, Brick Field Falcons wrapped up second spot and a spot in the Petrotrin Super League next season after whipping CFE 4-0 with a goal each from four different players. With T&TEC already taking the title, the battle was on between Brick Field and Big Dreams for the other promotion spot, however, the latter had its ambitions dashed via 1-0 loss to Los Iros.
For the runner-up spot Brick Field got $5,000 while Big Dreams took home $3,000. Meanwhile, Diamond United tooka 2-1 lead into its second-leg League Cup semifinal against Petrotrin Palo Seco last night after its win in Wednesday’s first-leg at home. In the lone remaining quaterfinal, Spurs came up against Penal All Stars last night with the winner to meet T&TEC in the semifinals.
