SIPARIA SPURS, the 2010 League kings, retained the John Alleyne Memorial Trophy last Sunday after whipping last year’s knockout runners- up Diamond United 2-0 in the statutory opening game of the Southern Football Association (SFA) season.
The SFA began its season at the Palo Seco Velodrome, with two Pro League outfits, debutants TTEC and champs Defence Force, featuring in another contest — TTEC won 4-3 from kicks via the penalty spot after a goalless scoreline at the end of regulation time.
Earlier on the day, there was a march past of teams, with SFA president Rudolph Thomas and Milton Siboo, a director at the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT) taking the salute.
Siboo encouraged the teams to strive to forge enduring friendships, despite the rivalries on the field, and also play their part in building camaraderie between the southern community.
