Quash Trace earned a hard fought 1-0 victory against Take That and Cool It on Sunday as action continued in the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond “9-a-side” Football League at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground.

Quash Trace, the defending champions, had to dig deep to eke out the result as they were outplayed by their opponents for the majority of the game.

Cool It, however, wasted several good chances and were made to pay late in the second period by Samuel Augustus who scored the winner.

The first half was eventless with both teams struggling to string together passes and closing each other down quickly. It was no surprise that they went into the half still deadlocked at 0-0.

But Cool It came out strongly after the interval and could have scored within five minutes of the resumption.

Winger, Adrian Emmanuel was played in on goal after a neat exchange of passes by the Cool It midfield but he dragged his left-footed strike wide as Quash Trace were let off the hook.

Cool It were turning up the heat on Quash Trace with shots flying in from all directions.

Dreadlocked midfielder Anthony Gill found space at the top of the 18-yard box and let fly with a screamer but the Quash Trace goalkeeper, diving at full stretch, tipped his effort over bar when it had looked destined for the top right corner.

Quash Trace striker Oral Jones almost put his team ahead against the run of play, robbing his defender of the ball but with just the goalkeeper to beat, he blasted high and wide.

Gill should have put Cool It ahead soon after but elected to shoot first time after being teed up at the top of the box when he should have taken another touch.

Quash Trace were feeding off the counterattack but Jones, Quash trace’s top-scorer, had clearly left his shooting boots home and wasted another glorious opportunity.

But with less than 10 minutes regulation time remaining, Augustus took advantage of Cool It’s defence failure to clear the ball and slammed the ball home from inside the area to seal an unlikely three points for last year’s winner.
