T&TEC, the 2010 bmobile National Super League double-champions, have ambitions of playing their football in the Digicel Pro League in 2011.
After capturing the Super League knockout crown earlier this year, T&TEC also dethroned last year's champs, Joe Public, and secured the league title when defeating Angostura 1976 Phoenix 2-1 on Wednesday.
They have gone a step better than 2009 when they finished second behind Joe Public in the league, in their first season in the Super League.
"From the team management and the players' side, we are preparing to play in the Pro League next season," T&TEC team manager Peter Mohan said yesterday. "However the ultimate decision is up to our senior management (at T&TEC).
"We have put forward a budget for management to consider," Mohan said of T&TEC's bid to play in the 2011 Digicel Pro League. "Based on the performances this year, we have convinced our management that as a corporate entity, one of the ways of giving back is through sport."
Mohan revealed T&TEC will be playing Premier League cricket next year, and they have pitched the idea to have the electricity company represented at the highest level in both cricket and football.
This year, T&TEC have played unbeaten, winning 13 of 17 league matches.
Among their players, Kevon Neaves (ex-University of Southern California), Anthony Noreiga (Joe Public), Sylvester Teesdale (Petrotrin), Kerron Benito (Petrotrin), Jamaal Ayres (Starworld Strikers), Bevon Lewis (Defence Force) and Joel Bailey (Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal Impact) either have Pro League experience or have played in the USA.
"The team is based in South, but the players are drawn from throughout the country. They all work for T&TEC at various locations throughout the country and also play football for the company. Kevon (Neaves) has a degree and has been hired in the clerical division while Anthony Noreiga is one of the guys that work in the field," said Mohan.
"We have been together since 2007 when we started playing in the SFA (Southern Football Association). We won out the SFA in 2008 and entered the play-offs where we qualified for the Super League.
"Our first year in the Super League was last year (2009) when we finished second to Joe Public. This year, we have done even better and so far, we have won both the league and knockout titles," Mohan added.
Defence Force puts Valtrin on exit brink.
By: Nigel Simon (Guardian).
Three different players were on target as Defence Force put league debutants Valtrin FC on the brink of relegation to its association league after a 3–1 whipping in their bmobile National Super League match on Wednesday.
Going into the match at Teteron Ground, Chaguaramas, Valtrin (16 points) needed a win to inch closer to M&M Harvard which sits in the safe spot on the 11-team table. However, Keseon Theodore fired Defence Force ahead in the 30th minute while Kevin Jagdeosingh made it 2–0 in the 47th.
Nathan Lewis pulled a goal back for Valtrin in the 63rd minute, but within five minutes veteran forward Sherman “Ants” Phillip restored Defence Force’s two goal cushion, which it held until the final whistle.
With the win, Defence Force, which has a match against newly crowned league winners’ T&TEC before the Disciplinary Committee, improved to fourth on the table with 27 points.
Valtrin, meanwhile, stayed in the relegation zone with 16 points from 18 matches, two ahead of Queen’s Park which it faces on Monday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo.
